Project Summary

The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) has joined a collaborative initiative known as the NATURED project, which brings together multiple organizations across the Adriatic-Ionian region to address pressing climate-related challenges in urban areas. This project focuses on developing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) that are both innovative and inclusive, aiming to reduce the impacts of climate events such as flash floods and heatwaves. With partners ranging from policy makers to academic institutions, the initiative supports the co-creation of tailored resilience strategies through research, stakeholder engagement, and pilot projects. The overarching aim of NATURED is to promote fair and sustainable adaptation strategies, particularly in communities most vulnerable to climate change. The project emphasizes green infrastructure solutions over conventional approaches, aligning with broader goals for a more climate-resilient region. By participating in this initiative, IUS demonstrates its dedication to impactful research and community-focused environmental action, contributing meaningfully to sustainable development efforts within Bosnia and Herzegovina and the surrounding region.

Project partners include: CORILA – Consortium for Coordination of Research Activities concerning the Venice Lagoon System; the Regional Development Agency of Northern Primorska L.t.d. Nova Gorica; the Public Institution RERA S.D. for Coordination and Development of Split-Dalmatia County; the Region of Thessaly; the International University of Sarajevo; the Regional Agency for Socio-Economic Development – Banat Ltd; the Regional Development Agency South; the Old Royal Capital Cetinje; the Municipality of Tirana; the Municipality of Gostivar; the City of Banja Luka; and the Lead Partner – Romagna Faentina Union.
