Type 1 diabetes (DMT1) is a complex genetic disorder with a rising number of cases in Sarajevo, especially among young people. In collaboration with the Association of Type 1 Diabetes Patients, this research aims to investigate genetic predisposition using six specific genetic markers. Through RT-PCR analysis, researchers aim to examine gene expression in both diagnosed individuals and their close relatives, alongside detailed anthropometric and biochemical testing at the Genetics Laboratory of the International University of Sarajevo. The goal is to identify hereditary patterns and better understand how genetic variations relate to physical health and lifestyle habits. Expected outcomes include stronger gene-expression correlations in diagnosed patients and valuable data that could support early prevention strategies and improved treatments for children and youth at risk.
